Sākshi’s work over the last 25 years has focused on strengthening systemic mechanisms, and enabling preventive interventions for the practice of Everyday Equality. The PIL, ‘Vishakha vs St of Rajasthan’, which got us the binding Vishakha Directions in 1997, the judge made law on Prevention of Workplace Sexual Harassment which led to the formulation of the legislation/ ACT in 2013 is evidence of the same.


The United Nations sustainable development goal aims to promote health and wellbeing across all ages, however, focus on elderly populations is hugely limited. The number of elderly in India is expected to be 340 million by 2050. Annual growth rate of the 60+ population is projected to be around 3% by 2050 and shows an increasing trend thereafter. In contrast, growth rate of the younger age group is expected to show a decreasing trend from 2050 to fall below 3%.


“Rasta” owes its origin to a group of socially conscious individuals, who were disturbed at the sight of children of school going age, rummaging in garbage heaps or standing at traffic intersections with begging bowls. They got together and deliberated upon the plight and potential of such children. The result was “Rasta”, a non-governmental, not for profit organization, registered in 1994 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.
